Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech — Morocco's Most Charming Coastal City

Escape to the magical blue & white coastal city of Essaouira on a full-day trip from Marrakech. Visit the medina, port, beach & eat fresh seafood. From €60/person. Transport included.

If Marrakech is fire — intense, colorful, and overwhelming in the best possible way — then Essaouira is cool ocean breeze.

Perched on the Atlantic coast just 2.5 hours from Marrakech, Essaouira (pronounced "es-sweera") is one of Morocco's most enchanting cities. Blue and white painted walls, a UNESCO-listed medina, a working fishing port, long windswept beaches, and some of the freshest seafood you'll find anywhere in Morocco.

It's the perfect escape from the intensity of Marrakech — and one of the most popular day trips we offer.

Why Essaouira?

Essaouira has a magic all its own. Unlike Marrakech, the pace is slow, the touts are minimal, and you can wander freely through the medina without being hassled at every turn. Artists, musicians, and writers have been drawn here for decades — Bob Marley visited and loved it, and its atmospheric medina has appeared in Game of Thrones as the city of Astapor.

For a traveler who wants to see a completely different side of Morocco in a single day, Essaouira is the answer.

Your local guide walks you through the medina's most beautiful streets, the historic ramparts with cannon-lined walls overlooking the Atlantic, the Moulay Hassan square, and the famous blue boats of the fishing harbor. The guide shares the city's fascinating history — Portuguese colonial roots, Jewish heritage, Gnawa musical culture, and its role as a major Atlantic trading port.

Visit the colorful working fishing port, then head to the legendary open-air grill stalls where freshly caught fish, prawns, calamari, and lobster are grilled right in front of you and served at wooden tables with bread and salad. This is one of the best budget seafood lunches in Morocco.
