Meet Mohammed, Founder of Sahara Horizons
I'm Mohammed, founder of Sahara Horizons. I was born and raised in southern Morocco near the Sahara Desert and now live and work in Marrakech.
I created Sahara Horizons to help travelers experience Morocco beyond the standard tourist route. We organize Sahara Desert tours, Marrakech excursions and private Morocco itineraries using local knowledge and a network of trusted drivers, guides, desert camps and accommodation providers.

What is the best Sahara desert tour from Marrakech?
If you have three days, we generally recommend Merzouga because the route combines the High Atlas Mountains, Aït Benhaddou, Dades Valley, Todra Gorge and the Erg Chebbi dunes. If you only have two days, Zagora is the more practical option because the journey is shorter.
Is Merzouga better than Zagora?
They offer different experiences. Merzouga is better for travelers who want large Sahara dunes and have three days. Zagora is better for travelers with only two days.
How long does it take to reach Merzouga from Marrakech?
The drive takes approximately 8–10 hours depending on road conditions, traffic and stops. Our 3-day itinerary breaks the journey with an overnight stay in the Dades Valley.
Do you offer private Sahara tours?
Yes. We organize private Sahara tours for couples, families and groups. Private trips give you more flexibility with departure times, stops and accommodation.
Do you offer shared Sahara tours?

Is Agafay the Sahara Desert?
No. Agafay is a rocky desert landscape located close to Marrakech, while the Sahara is much farther south and includes large sand-dune areas such as Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. Agafay is ideal when you have only a few hours; Merzouga is better for a full Sahara experience.
